At Hamilton State School, we offer a range of extra-curricular activities throughout the school year. These include:

  • Instrumental music program: students in Year 4-6 can participate in this instrumental music program. Students receive one lesson per week and can choose from a variety of instruments.
  • Year 5/6 leadership camp, offered to the upper school students to give them the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to effectively lead the student body.
  • Swimming (Prep – Year 6, once a week in term 4): compulsory for all students. Focus is placed on the Queensland Royal Life-Saving learn to swim program and the Queensland Royal Life-Saving water safety program.
  • Small Schools Athletics Carnival: held annually with other schools in the North Brisbane region. These days provide wonderful opportunities for students to socialise and compete against students from different schools.
  • Choir: students from all year levels have the opportunity to join the school choir. Practising weekly, the choir students partake several choir tours, visiting a aged care facilities in the area.
  • Hamilton State School Christmas concert is run once a year. The concert gives students the chance to further their public speaking skills and build confidence when performing in front of an audience.
  • City district sports carnivals and sport trials: students 10 years and above are able to participate in trials in a variety of sports including; swimming, athletics, cross country, cricket, basketball, netball, rugby league, soccer, touch, tennis and softball.
  • Excursions: throughout the year and according to the units covered by classes, the school offers a number of excursions to provide enhanced learning experiences for the students. Past excursions include Lone-Pine Sanctuary, Under 8s Day at Southbank, Science Museum, GOMA Arts Exhibition, Planetarium, Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre and the Brisbane Exhibition.
